Emergency Preparedness

There is always the possibility of a natural disaster or other emergencies occurring while you are taking courses. Here is some information on SPC's emergency preparations for students.

Opt-In to Receive SPC Alerts

To help you stay informed, opt-in so SPC can call or text you about campus safety warnings, campus closings, weather notifications, key deadlines, and other important information. To add your number and opt to receive messages, follow the directions located on the Receiving Alerts page of the preparedness site. 

What should you do if SPC campuses are closed due to an emergency?

  • Check Titan Hub for updates and announcements

  • Check MyCourses regularly for banners, announcements, and emails from your faculty members

  • Check MyCourses email and your SPC email for updates about the status of SPC campus operations

  • Don’t know how to use MyCourses?  Check out Introduction to MyCourses for a quick overview of the system

  • Have a question about MyCourses? Check out student guides on this site for helpful tutorials on MyCourses and its tools. 

  • Add the College Emergency Line - (866) 822-3978 - to your cell phone as you can call this number for updates. 

MyCourses Infomation for Students during Emergencies 

  1. MyCourses, MyCourses email, SPC email (outlook), and your phone are all ways you will receive communications from SPC.

  2. A closure of St. Petersburg College refers to all courses including online courses.

  3. Once SPC re-opens, faculty will attempt to return to instructional normalcy as quickly as possible, but with the understanding that power and internet outages may affect faculty and students individually.

  4. For Online Courses: Faculty will modify online course assignments and due dates as quickly as possible ensuring students have the opportunity to achieve all major learning objectives for the course.

  5. For Blended Courses: Faculty may add online instructional activities to substitute for missed in-class activities.

  6. For courses taught in the classroom, faculty will revise assignments and deadlines as quickly as possible. Faculty may provide instructional materials and assignments online so that you can continue without a disruption in your academic goals.

  7. If your home campus is in a condition that does not allow for instruction to continue, the faculty may require instruction to continue online or at an alternate campus.

  8. Changes in locations for studio classes, practices, and internships may be necessary if partner organizations are not able to be open. Supervising faculty will communicate with students through MyCourses with information on alternate locations if needed.
