Student Experience with Peer Review

Some assignments in Canvas may include peer review, where you review and provide feedback on another student's work. Peer reviews are designed to help you practice giving constructive feedback, learn from your classmates, and improve your own work through collaboration.

When you are assigned a peer review, it will appear in your To Do list and within the assignment. You'll be able to open your classmate's submission, leave comments, and mark the review as complete once your feedback is submitted. Some instructors provide you with a rubric as well. Be sure you follow the instructions in the assignment for how exactly you are supposed to perform the review.

Step by Step

  1. Students will see their assigned reviews in the To Do list and under the assignments. Students will also see assigned reviews in their Course Modules under the Specific Assignment.

  2. To complete a review, they open a peer's submission.

  3. The Assignment will appear.

Note: If a Rubric is provided by an instructor, it will pop up when opening the Assignment. This pop-up can be closed and reopened later when needed.

  4. To reopen the Rubric, Scroll Down the page, select Fill out rubric.

  5. Add comments in the annotation tools, and/or leave overall comments in the Submission Comment box.

  6. Once you have submited feedback, the review is marked as complete.

  7. To access additional Peer Reviews, Students can scroll to the top of the page and select Required Peer Reviews drop down menu.
