Now that you've enrolled in an online class, it's important to get off to a good start. To help you do that, here are some things you need to know – and do – in advance.
Titan Hub and MySPC Student Portals
- Check out the Titan Hub. This is your SPC portal and how you access all that you need to succeed at SPC! Review Navigating Titan Hub - Student Guide and reach out to the helpdesk if you need assistance.
- Check the start date of your online course(s). To do so, log into the Titan Hub and select MySPC
from the Shortcuts or from the capsule menus (Pay for Classes or Career and Advising). Once inside MySPC, select My Academics and then select Schedule & Fees. This will show you the start date for your course(s).
- It is important that you obtain the textbooks for your course prior to the first day of class. After you register for classes in MySPC, you can see the required and recommended textbooks and materials for each class.. The International Standard Book Number (ISBN) is provided so you get the exact educational content you need, no matter where you shop. More information about textbooks is available here.
Canvas Learning Management System
-
Access Your Canvas Account. Canvas is SPC's online learning platform. Every course you take at SPC, regardless if it is face-to-face, Live-Online, blended, or an online course, will have an online classroom in Canvas. The following resources are available to help you become more acquainted with Canvas:
- SPC's Canvas Student Training. As a student, you have access to a self-paced course called Canvas Student Training that's designed to help you familiarize yourself with the Canvas Learning Management system. The goal is to provide you with an overview of the Canvas environment as well as a chance to interact with some of its most commonly used tools. Here are instructions for accessing SPC's Canvas Student Training.
- Canvas Student FAQs: Do you have further questions after taking the Canvas Student Training? Check out these guides full of tips, tricks, and frequently asked questions about Canvas to broaden your knowledgebase! Bookmark them in your browser to refer back to!
- Find and review your course syllabi. The syllabus is listed in the Canvas course navigation for each individual course. To view course Syllabi prior to the course being open, navigate to SPC's Simple Syllabus website.
Respondus LockDown Browser and Zoom
- Many online courses require proctored testing for midterms, finals, or course exams. Navigate to What is Respondus Lockdown Browser/Respondus Monitor for more information.
- Zoom Account for Live Online: If you take a course that is a "Live Online" course, you will need to create a basic Zoom account with your SPC email. You can visit spcollege.zoom.us and click sign in to set up your SPC zoom account. Some meetings require you to use your SPC email address. See: How to use Zoom (Student Guide)
- Get a jump start on your classes, with early access! Online courses are made available to students three days before the class is scheduled to begin. This provides you with an opportunity to review the course syllabus and become familiar with the course.
